THE STYLE GUIDE · 05 / 07 · TAILORED

A blazer with a good drape can transform a simple combination. So can a pair of pleated trousers. Tailored style for women is built on structure, proportion and a fit that lets you move comfortably. You can wear it to a meeting, a lunch or a dinner without every look reading as office wear.

The trick is choosing how much structure you want: a full set, a vest-style top with trousers, or a single tailored piece next to a basic. It is one of the six aesthetics in the Giza’s Boutique style guide, and here Carmen shows all three options and the details worth checking before you buy.

What is a women’s tailored suit?

A women’s tailored suit usually pairs a jacket with coordinating trousers or a skirt. Lapels, seams, darts and where the waist sits all help define its silhouette. It can be a ready-to-wear piece in standard sizes: the word “tailored” does not automatically mean made to measure.

The Tailored aesthetic uses those same devices outside a full suit. High-waisted trousers with a plain top can express it already, as long as the drape and the proportions are considered.

To recognise it, look at three things: defined shoulders, a waist that sits where it should, and deliberate lengths. You do not need a stiff or very fitted piece. A relaxed silhouette keeps its tailored character when the lines fall cleanly and you can walk, sit and move your arms naturally.

Three levels of structure to choose your look

LevelThe baseHow to make it everyday
Full setCoordinating blazer and skirt or trousersA simple top, a plain bag and flat shoes
Middle groundVest-style top with matching trousersFew accessories and the top’s own tie
One statement pieceTailored trousers and a fitted topA contrast of volumes and simple shoes

Choose by your routine. If you want a combination that comes ready-made, start with a set. If you would rather mix pieces, tailored trousers can live alongside several tops you already own.

THE COLOR CODE

The tailored style palette

Tailored style rests on colors that do not compete with each other. These five tones work together in any order, so every piece you add keeps working with what is already in your closet.

Charcoal

#222222
The base. It gives structure without the hardness of absolute black.

Navy

#2b3a55
The stand-in for charcoal when you want something less severe.

Taupe

#8a7f72
The warm neutral that softens a full matching set.

Camel

#bfa07a
It brings light up top without breaking the vertical line.

Ivory

#f2ebe0
The breathing room. It works under any jacket in this guide.

If you are starting from scratch, save the dark tones for the structured pieces and leave camel and ivory for what goes underneath. It is the combination that asks the fewest decisions of you in the morning.

The Clara Plaid Blazer and Skirt Set pairs a button-front blazer with a mini skirt in the same plaid, both with functional pockets. The plaid brings the interest, while the black bag and the plain top let the jacket’s lines show. The catalog lists it in Khaki, in sizes S to 2XL, in a 95 % polyester and 5 % elastane fabric.
LOOK 01

Look 1: plaid blazer and skirt with black accessories

The formula: the Clara set + a simple ivory top + a plain black bag + flat pointed-toe shoes.

For a women’s blazer outfit that is easy to wear, start with a simple neckline and comfortable shoes. A pointed toe adds definition even without a heel. Keep the jewelry small if you want the plaid to stay the main detail.

Clara comes with a mini skirt. It is a proposal for everyday, for going out, or for a professional setting that allows that length. We are not presenting it as a universal option for conservative offices. Try the skirt sitting, walking and going up a step: it should give you the coverage you need without making you constantly readjust it.

You can also split the pieces. Wear the blazer with plain trousers you already own and save the coordinating mini skirt for other plans. If you need a women’s trouser suit from the start, the Verona Stretch Blazer and Pants Suit offers that alternative in black and green, and it appears in Look 3 of this guide.

LOOK 02

Look 2: vest-style set in Dust Storm

The formula: the Siena Button-Front Palazzo Pants Set + its own waist tie + a structured tote + pointed-toe shoes.

The Dust Storm shade, a warm sand, creates a neutral base, and the wide trousers bring movement. The top’s own tie is what marks the waist, so you do not need to add a separate belt. Tighten it gently: if the front wrinkles or the buttons pull, loosen it. The piece already has a defined shape.

A structured tote suits the daytime version. Look for a capacity that matches what you actually carry and handles that feel comfortable; the shape of the bag does not need to overpower the outfit.

To work somewhere that requires sleeves, add a plain jacket from your wardrobe and try the whole combination before you leave. For a casual dinner, you can keep both pieces and change only the bag and the earrings.

The Siena Button-Front Palazzo Pants Set brings together a sleeveless top with front buttons and an adjustable tie, plus matching palazzo trousers. It reads as a tailored vest without a blazer’s lapels. It costs 51 dollars.

The trousers from the Verona Stretch Blazer and Pants Suit show the simplest level of structure, worn without their jacket. The high waist defines the lower half; a top close to the body lets you read that construction without adding another layer.
LOOK 03

Look 3: black tailored trousers and an ivory top

The formula: black tailored trousers + a fitted ivory top tucked in + black pointed-toe shoes.

Verona is sold as a two-piece set, not as trousers on their own.

The contrast between ivory and black makes it easy to combine. If you want more coverage, use a short-sleeved tee or a long-sleeved top with a similar drape. The aim is for the top to sit comfortably inside the waistband without bunching and disturbing the line of the trousers.

Because the fabric has a fair amount of elastane, check that the waist does not give out over the day and that the trousers recover their shape when you stand. The ivory top and the shoes are part of the styling; they are not included with the set. The look works on its own, without the blazer.

How to tell whether a tailored piece fits you

Shoulders and mobility

On a classic-shoulder blazer, check that the seam meets the end of your shoulder and that the sleeve falls without marked dents. On a deliberately oversized cut it can sit further out; what matters is that the extra room reads as coherent with the design.

Button the jacket and reach your arms forward as if you were driving. Watch for tension across the back or an “X” around the closure. Repeat the test with the top you plan to wear underneath. A jacket has to work in motion, not only standing still in front of a mirror.

Where the waist sits

The waistband should stay put when you sit and stand. If the darts open under tension or the pockets pull away from your body, check the waist and hip measurements. A belt can support the fit, but it should not be what holds up a size that is far too big.

On a vest-style top, check that the buttons do not gap between each other and that you can breathe and sit without pressure. The length should let the hem keep its shape over the trousers.

Trouser length and the break over the shoe

The break is the small fold that forms where the hem meets your shoe. Trousers can fall almost straight, with little break, or form a soft fold. On a wide leg, avoid so much fabric pooling that it drags or catches as you walk.

Try them with the shoes you usually wear before adjusting the hem. If you alternate flats and heels, look for a length that works across similar heights; a big change in height can alter the drape.

Skirt length

Check the length standing and sitting, along with how comfortable it is to walk. Take your height into account, and the dress code of wherever you will wear it. A mini skirt does not become a conservative office skirt because you added a blazer.

In a set, check the measurements of both pieces. The jacket and the skirt may not fit you equally well in the same size. Compare the chart against pieces you already find comfortable, and ask about any ambiguous measurement before buying.

From the office to dinner without changing completely

Keep the base and change one or two elements. The shift reads without you having to carry a second outfit.

Heels are not compulsory for dinner. Well-kept flats and a small bag can handle the transition. If you change shoes, check that the trousers still are not dragging.

How to soften a suit without losing its shape

Let the jacket or the trousers carry the structure, and pair them with something simple: a fine knit top, a plain tee or a blouse with a clean neckline. Avoid piling on details if the set already has plaid, buttons or a marked waist.

You can also dial down the formality by splitting the pieces. A blazer with plain trousers from your wardrobe, or tailored trousers with a well-fitted tee, give you combinations that are easy to repeat. Choose fabrics and lengths that sit well together, without layers bunching under the jacket.

If you want a jacket on its own rather than a set, the Siena Cropped Camel Cotton Blazer es de 100 % algodón, sin forro y de largo corto, con tallas de S a L. Al no llevar forro resulta más ligero que un blazer de traje, y su largo funciona bien con pantalones de tiro alto.

If you like the precision of these lines but prefer fewer elements, the Minimal selection shares that attention to proportion.

Before you choose your next Tailored piece

Start from a real occasion: do you need a full set, a sleeveless alternative, or trousers you can repeat? Then check four things:

  • Measurements for each piece: shoulders and bust for the top half; waist, hip and length for the bottom.
  • Movement: sitting, walking and raising your arms without pulling.
  • Composition and care: do not infer the fiber or the internal quality from a photograph alone.
  • Possible combinations: at least two ways to wear the piece with what you already own.

A good purchase starts with the fit and ends in your routine. Choose the structure you want to wear today, and change the accessories when the plan changes.
